Beauty sleep boost: the color to paint your bedroom walls

A good night’s rest is not only important for avoiding cranky mornings. Getting enough sleep can help reduce stress, improve your mood, stay at a healthy weight and lower your risk for serious health issues. Lack of sleep is tied to numerous ailments and chronic sleep deprivation might actually lead to death. If you’re having trouble falling asleep and have tried different mattresses, gadgets and pillows, there might be something that could do the trick. According to sleep experts blue is the best color to help you sleep better.

Falling asleep with blue

A 2018 study of the blue walls in a university residence hall shows that blue tones tend to have a calming effect on the brain. According to Somnus Therapy sleep psychologist Katherine Hall blue is associated with serenity and calmness. “Studies have also shown that households with blue bedrooms sleep the best when compared to any other color,” she explains.

It seems that every shade of blue can have a calming effect, though the results appear to be the best with light blue. Kaley Medina, a pediatric and adult sleep coach, explains that light blue colors don’t stimulate us, which could help the body produce melatonin. And melatonin is exactly what the body needs to fall asleep and stay asleep during the night.
